How to Clean Hair Brushes and Combs (07/14/2009)
You can find brushes ranging in price from $15 to $150. No matter how much you spend on a brush you want it to last a long time. How you take care of these tools will be a big influence on how long you have them. Follow the steps in this easy to follow article and you will not have to get rid of a brush.
Make sure that all hair and visible material that is not supposed to be in the brush are removed from the brush. An easy and quick way to do this is to use a large tooth comb using soft tension run the comb down the surface of the brush to remove all hair.
In a sink or plastic container- fill with hot water and soap. You can use a gentle shampoo product, however the best product I have found for this is dish soap. It has the ability to cut through any product build up you may have on your tools. Make sure there is a lather.
Soak the brushes and combs in this solution for 15 minutes (or follow manufacturer’s recommendations)- some brushes come with their own cleaning instructions, follow them.
Rinse- I run another sink of cool water. Cool water/ warm water, just make sure no soap solution is left behind.
Lay out on a towel and let air dry. This may take a full day for some brushes, be patient this is the best way to dry them, without causing damage.
